Joey is a dream come true. I think that just about summarizes the enjoyment he brings to our lives on a daily basis. Joey will be 2.5 years old April 24, 2006. He is a showdog extraordinaire, and has an arrogance and confidence that few other Afghans display in the ring. If you are not his family, ie, me or Eddie, he will most likely completely ignore you. If you consider yourself worthy of petting him, he will then give you a stare of “as if.” With us, however, he is absolutely the most loving, sweet, goofy creature, and he will often pester us with his favorite toys—a stuffed weasel, named “Weasley,” or a giant stuffed caterpillar named “Pillar,” so that we can throw the toy from the living room all the way to the end of the office or up the stairs so he can chase it down. He usually brings it back, as well, which is pretty unusual for an Afghan. He does not seem to have lost much of his puppy playfulness, and we are only too happy to play with him daily. Atlanta Air-Mail Joey was born on October 24, 2003 in the kennel of Lucia Brown, Dragonfly Afghan Hounds. I had been searching for a show male puppy, and her dogs stood out among the many, many pages I had surfed. They were not only correct in type, but had the movement and substance I believe to be important to a hunting sighthound. I then emailed her, and waited a few days to hear from her as she was at the National Specialty in Warwick, RI. The wait was more than worth it—Lucia turned out to be extremely nice, knowledgeable, honest, and funny. She had a litter in the works by Merlot, Ch. Boanne Dragonfly LX Kameron, by Dakota, Ch. Dragonfly Diamond Rio, JC. I sent her a link to Phoebe’s web page, we talked for many hours in the next coming weeks, and Eddie and I were honored to be able to take the black boy puppy home. He arrived on December 27, 2003, in a crate at the Atlanta airport. We could hear him squeaking and barking to be let out while he was still more than a hundred feet away. When we opened up the crate door, he immediately ran right up to my legs, and looked up, expecting happily to be picked up. Well, that was it. We were totally and madly in love with the little fuzzball, and he further charmed Eddie on the drive back by calmly laying on my lap, occasionally giving me kisses, and enjoying a foot scratchy Eddie gave him (he spread his little toes apart when Eddie scratched his foot---too cute for words). Tidewater Specialty \'06 Joey was housebroken within two weeks, although it did take him a little while to accept the leash as a necessary part of life. He also went to his first puppy match at the young at of 4 months, and proceeded to gait around the ring with his tail held high, happy to be alive. We were so proud of him. As he grew, he went through a few awkward and gangly phases, but throughout these stages we knew that he had a fabulous pedigree, that he looked great at 8 and 12 weeks, and that he just needed time to grow into his angles. So, when he hit 12 months old, it’s as if everything started to click—he went to the Huntsville and Decatur Kennel Club shows, Thurs-Sunday in the first week of November, 2004, and proceeded to win WD three out of four days. On Sunday, however, came the icing on the cake when he not only took BOW but BOB over a group 2 placing special under Judge Tom Kirstein. We were elated. joeyhead1-4x6.jpg Since then, he has proven himself a great show dog and housedog, and we are looking forward to not only starting a kennel with him as our foundation stud when he is finished, but also to obedience and coursing work with him. With Joey and his attitude, it truly seems that the sky is the limit. NOTE: Use the menu on the right to navigate through Pedigree, Career, Breeding and Photo Gallery.
